FAQ Schema
FAQ schema is a specific type of schema markup that identifies a set of questions and answers on a page, allowing search engines to potentially display them as an expandable list directly within search results, and giving AI answer engines a clean, structured source to quote from.
Why it matters
A page with a genuinely useful FAQ section becomes more valuable once that content is marked up properly: search engines can lift individual answers straight into results, and AI tools summarising "how much does X cost" style questions have a clear, attributable answer to draw from.
It rewards content that actually answers real questions plainly. The schema doesn't help if the underlying answers are vague or evasive.
Common mistakes
- Marking up marketing copy as if it were a real question and answer
- Writing answers too vaguely to be useful if shown standalone in search results
- Using FAQ schema on hidden or duplicate content across many pages
- Forgetting to update the schema when the visible FAQ content changes

Does FAQ schema guarantee my questions show up in Google?
No. It makes them eligible for that treatment, but whether and how they display is entirely at the search engine's discretion.
How many FAQs should a page have?
Enough to answer the real questions a visitor has, usually somewhere between five and ten for a commercial page. Padding the list with filler questions doesn't help.
