How do I write a quote for a job?
List the work as separate lines, each with a description, a quantity, and a price. Add up the lines for a subtotal, add VAT if you are registered, and show the total the customer will pay. This generator lays it out that way for you and gives you a clean document to print or save as a PDF.
What is the difference between a quote and an invoice?
A quote is what you send before the work to tell the customer what it will cost. An invoice is what you send after the work to ask for payment, usually with payment terms and your bank details. This tool does both: pick quote or invoice at the top and the labels and fields change to suit.
Do I need to charge VAT on my quotes?
Only if you are VAT registered. Registration is compulsory once your VAT-taxable turnover goes over the UK threshold (£90,000 in a rolling 12 months), and optional below it. If you are not registered, set the VAT rate to 0 and leave your VAT number blank.
Is my information saved anywhere?
No. Everything you type stays in your browser and is never sent to us or stored. When you print or save the document, it is generated on your own device. Refreshing the page clears it.
How do I turn this into a PDF?
